Two of the worst teams in the American League Central are starting a four-game series on Thursday night when the Twins host the White Sox. Both teams are pretty much preparing for next season already as they are both double-digit games out of first place. The White Sox are 10 games out and the Twins are 11 games out of first with Minnesota sitting alone in the Central basement. We are going to bet on Minnesota to win this game as they send Phil Hughes to the mound on Thursday.
We hate to say it, but the only excitement for the Twins this season and their fans has been the All-Star Game that they hosted earlier this month. Sitting in the cellar of the AL Central, the Twins will not be able to make a run at the post-season. Phil Hughes takes the mound for the Twins with a record of 10-6 and an ERA of 4.06 this year. After dropping eight of their last 10 games at home, the Twins took three of four from the Indians at Target Field.
The only two bright spots in an ugly season for the White Sox this year have been starting pitcher Chris Sale and slugging rookie first baseman Jose Abreu. Abreu is in the middle of a 13-game hitting streak in what is likely a Rookie-of-the-Year season. The White Sox enter tonight on a two-game slide and have lost six of their last 10 games.
